Mission:

We are the Gunnison Valley Community Alliance and we believe in promoting responsible growth by participating in the regular processes of local government. Our group focuses on research and education on a variety of issues affecting the future of our communities and we will collaborate with other community groups wherever there is a shared interest. The first issue GVCA has taken up is the potential impact of super stores on local businesses, the city of Gunnison, and the Gunnison Valley. As several candidates in the past election have pointed out, the city and county of Gunnison are at a crossroads. The decisions of the next several months will set the course of the county's future for generations to come. Won't you please join us in ensuring fully-informed, smart decisions and a bright future?

Recent restatement of mission,  and comments on our e-list:

Mission statement of the Gunnison Valley Community Alliance: To preserve the
quality and distinctiveness of life for the current and future residents of
the Gunnison Valley by maintaining responsive, participatory government;
encouraging research and education on issues affecting the future of our
communities; and conserving the natural features that make this valley
uniquely blessed.

The purpose behind our e-list was to establish group communication and open
discussion for our membership.

We have also, as a community organization, opened our list to anyone from
the community who would like to either listen to or join the conversation.
We are interested in the diversity of opinions that can come from this
community.

We hope that everyone who reads the messages on this list is willing to
respect that same diversity, and appreciate that this is an internal group
forum where people are expressing their opinion.

And, not that this has been a problem to date, but just a reminder: personal
attacks and inappropriate language do not belong in this group discussion.
The resolution of differences of opinions which escalate into personal
exchanges between individuals should take place outside this e-group.

Let's remember to discuss concerns, issues and challenges to our community
-- and not people.

Thanks for being part of our conversation.
